Memorial service for Mr. Jon Steven Windham will be at Noon Wednesday, October 28, 2020,

Mr. Windham, 55, of Brookhaven, passed from this life on October 26, 2020, at the

University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Brookhaven on December 15, 1964,

to Arch Lemar Windham and Dorothy Irene Newell Windham. He worked as a hydraulic technician.

He enjoyed the time off from work riding his side by side at the Homochitto River.

Mr. Windham was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church in Brookhaven.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are, his sons, Blake Windham and Caleb Windham;

brother, Mike Windham; and sister, Brenda Windham; three grandchildren,

Cole Windham; Laura Windham and Lynnlee Windham, as well as other loving family members and friends.

Graveside services for Mrs. Kathleen Kitchens Waltman of Wesson is 3:00 p.m. MondayOctober 26,2020 at Sylvarena Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sylvarena Baptist Church from 2:00 p.m. until time of graveside service.

Mrs. Kathleen Waltman, 69, went to be with her Lord on October 24, 2020 at her residence.

She was born on September 12, 1951 to the late Robert Lee Kitchens, Jr., and Mary Louise Connerly Kitchens.

Mrs. Waltman was a member of SylvarenaBaptist Church and retired Resource teacher with the Wesson School district.

Preceding her in death were her parents; grandparents;and father-in-law.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Tony F. Waltman; sons Tod Waltman and wife, Erin, and Rob Waltman and wife, Sharon; daughter, Whitney Warren and husband, Brandon; brother, Bobby Kitchens and wife Barbara. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Dylan Waltman, Tyler Waltman, Addison Waltman, Mason Warren, Hutson Waltman, and Harlan Warren.   Mrs. Waltman was also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services for Mr. Larry Dean Stegall are 2:00 pm, Friday, October 23, 2020,

at Riverwood Family with visitation from 12:00 until the time of the service.

Larry Dean Stegall, 56, of Wesson passed away on October 19, 2020,

at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

He was born on July 22, 1964, to the late Marvin W. Stegall and Mildred Jeanette Wilson Stegall

Mr. Stegall was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He loved MSU and NFL sports

and singing in a Gospel Quartet, he also loved spending time with and bragging on his grandchildren. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Michael Keith Stegall, Donald Eugene Stegall, and late wife, Mimi Stegall.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Honor J. Romero Stegall; sons, Craig Stegall and wife, Jessica, Joshua D. Stegall and wife, Rachael,

Alan Stegall and wife, Sylvia, and stepson, Gavin W. Games; step-daughter, Miranda Games, and 7 grandchildren, Abigail Lynn Stegall, Ryder Craig Stegall, Graham Alan Stegall, Jacob Dean Stegall, Aurora, Angelina, and Julie.

Funeral service for Mrs. Doris Walker Bessonette will be 2 p.m., Wednesday,

October 21, 2020, at Riverwood Family with burial at Mallalieu Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at Riverwood.

Mrs. Doris Walker Bessonette, 89, of Brookhaven, passed from this life October 17, 2020.

She was born November 1, 1930, to her parents, Isom W. Walker and Ophelia Jones Walker.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

She was a member of Mallalieu Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Carl “J.C.” Bessonette; her parents; sons,

Michael H. Smith, Stephen Smith; three brothers, Charles Walker, Haskell Walker,

and Paul Walker; three sisters, Mildred Brown, Eloyes L. Bessonette, Patricia Ann Brown;

and great granddaughter Isabella Newman.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, John Kevin Bessonette (Stacy McEachern);

daughter-in-law, Patricia Smith; four grandchildren, Chris Smith (Christina),

Alanna Smith (Tracey Case), Zercon Smith (Shannon), Jessica Smith; and four great grandchildren,

Elizabeth Smith, Peyton Smith, Quinn Smith, and Wrynn Case.

She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.

Services for Myrna Kerr Townsend of Crystal Springs are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2020,

at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS, with burial at the church cemetery.

Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. at the church until time of service.

Myrna Kerr Townsend, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on

October 16, 2020. She passed away at Pine Crest Guest Home after a long illness associated

with dementia. She was born on August 20, 1938 to D. B. Kerr and Mary Frances Kerr. 

Myrna married the love of her life, Paul, on June 21, 1958. They were married for over 59

years until his death in 2017.

Myrna graduated from Kosciusko High School in 1956 and attended Draughn's Business College

before taking a job as a Bookkeeper for a Mechanical Engineering firm where she worked for 50+ years. 


Myrna was an active member of Midway Baptist Church of Jackson before moving to Crystal Springs

where she joined First Baptist Church, Crystal Springs. She was always active in the choir and served

in various roles with Golden Days. Service and hospitality were her spiritual gifts, and she loved

serving and taking care of others. Myrna loved all people and touched many lives with her happy

disposition and servants heart.  

Myrna had many hobbies and loved to travel. She enjoyed her family and friends from Buckhorn Hunting Club,

and she loved to go camping. She also loved to work with her hands and made many Christmas ornaments,

stockings, quilts, pictures, and many other items. One of her favorite past times was watching her grandchildren

play ball, and she did her best to make it to all their games.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Barbara Morgan and Kaye Kerr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons; Don Townsend and wife, Liz, and David Townsend, and wife, Kim;

her daughter Susan T. Easterling and husband, Irving; sister Kathy Jennings and husband, John. She is also survived

by 7 grandchildren; Shane Easterling, Seth Easterling, Summer Burns, Sara Allen, Emily Townsend, Jordan Townsend,

and Dallas Townsend; and 9 great grandchildren, along with other loving family members and friends.

Memorials can be made to Alzheimer's Foundation or Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund.

Graveside service for Mr. Leslie Paulette Greer of Brookhaven are 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 20, 2020,

at McBride Cemetery in Jefferson County.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Monday, October 19, at Union Church Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Leslie Paulette Greer, 74 went to be with his Lord and Savior, on October 16, 2020, with his family by his side,

He was born on September 15, 1946, in Vicksburg, MS, to the late Delmar Greer and Ruby Elizabeth Paulette Greer.

Leslie loved the outdoors, anything mechanical particularly muscle cars, and spending time

at the family land known as the "The Farm". He was a Master Mason

for 52 plus years at the John A. Galbert Lodge # 334 and he was a Shriner.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Cleve Greer, William Lynn Greer, and Herman Greer.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret Greer; sons Chad Greer and wife, Amy, and Matthew Greer and wife, Danya;

daughter, Tracy Greer Etheridge, and husband, Michael, and sisters, Bertha Varnado, and Martha McKinney.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Dustin Greer, Cody Greer and wife, Chelsie, Alan Barlow, Cameron Greer, Kimberly Greer,

Allison Etheridge, Alex Greer Etheridge, Cady Swindle, Lauren Crowe, Colton Hegwood, Justin Etheridge, and Hailey Etheridge,

and great-grandchildren, Caroline Crowe, and Braxtyn Jones.

Graveside service for Mr. James Earl McGrew will be 11 a.m., Monday,

October 19, 2020, at Riverwood Memorial Park.

Mr. McGrew, 77, of McComb, passed from this life October 14, 2020

at his residence. He was born in Lawrence County Mississippi October 13, 1943,

to his parents, Herva McGrew and Annie Ballard McGrew.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Nelson and Hilda Thames;

brother, Frank McGrew; and baby William.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lola McGrew; daughters,

Karen McGrew Redd and Martha McGrew; four grandchildren, Carly, Tristan, and

Ashton Thompson, and Hedrick Redd. He is also survived by one great grandchild,

Allyson Thompson as well as other loving family members and friends.

Graveside service for Mrs. Margie Olline Jones will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2020,

at East Lincoln Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Friday evening,

October 16, at Riverwood Family.

Mrs. Jones, 76, of Brookhaven, passed from this life October 14, 2020 at her residence in East Lincoln.

She was born in Silver Creek, MS November 18, 1943, to her parents, Lonnie King and Laura Jane Lambert King.

She was a Supervisor in the dietary department at the Mississippi School of the Arts. She was a loving wife,

mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, as well as a friend to many. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Jones; parents; brother, Robert King; and sister, Claudine Fuller.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Donnie Hedgepeth “Speedy” and wife Karen;

daughters, Connie Douglas and husband, Ronnie, Deborah Pierce and husband, Barrett, Judy Ellzey and husband,

Everett; brothers, Lonnie King, Jr., Raymond King and wife, Carron, Daryl King, Eugene King and wife, Lanelle, Tony King,

and Larry King and wife, Jennifer. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Joshua Douglas, Heather Pierce, Gabriel Pierce,

Kimberly Douglas, Jake Hedgepeth, Adrienne Forman, Makayla Fuller, Rebecca Hamilton, and Abby Ellzey; and ten great

grandchildren along with other loving family members and friends.

Graveside service for Mr. James Doyle Powell will be 4 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2020,

at Riverwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Powell, 87, of Brookhaven, passed from this life October 14, 2020. He was born in White Bluff,

Mississippi, January 29, 1933, to James Clad Powell and Neva Marie Price Powell Hendricks.

He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Powell was the

owner of R. B. Wall Oil Company where, over the years, he provided “first job” opportunities

for hundreds of young men, and he was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was a member

of various clubs including VFW Post 2618, American Legion Post 79, Wahabi Shriners, Grand Encampment

of Knights Templar, Master Mason Grand Lodge of Mississippi, John A. Galbreath Lodge 334, and

a founding member of Brookhaven Academy, serving on the first Board of Directors. He was an avid hunter

and fisherman and owned bird dogs his entire life up to just two years ago. He enjoyed collecting guns and

attending sporting events, especially those involving his children and grandchildren. He took care of a lifetime

stable of dogs…“Everyone should be so lucky to be Doyle Powell’s dog”, was an often used refrain around the

Kenneth Wayne Powell and wife, Sherry, of Brookhaven, MS; daughters, Sharon Ann Powell, of Pensacola, FL,

Tina Powell McGhee and husband, Jim, of Pensacola, FL; brothers, Dale Powell and wife Betty, Billy Wayne Powell

and wife Cici, Richard Powell; sister, Peggy Rowell and husband, Kenny; six grandchildren, Joy Elizabeth Powell,

Jamison Powell, James McGhee, Robert McGhee, Bridgette Wheatley, Jessica Hyde; six great grandchildren,

Anna Wheatley, Spencer Wheatley, Luke Hyde, Olivia Hyde, Charley White, and Caroline Hyde. He is also

survived by a special family members, Mary Lee Brister and Randy Wallace and a host of special cousins,

nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.

Mr. Powell’s family extends special appreciation to the caretakers who provided gracious assistance to our

father including Renea Dawson, Becki Berry and Rebecca Cameron. We also would like to thank the wonderful

medical staff in various Brookhaven offices, who did so much in caring for our father.

Graveside services for Mrs. Laverne Smith Lea will be 11 a.m., Friday,

October 16, 2020, at Riverwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Lea, of Brookhaven, passed from this life October 13, 2020. Her life journey

began October 11, 1924, being born to J. Arthur “Geems” Smith and Dicey Arcola Johnston Smith.

Her family celebrated her Sunday, on her 96th birthday. Mrs. Lea graduated from the

University of Southern Mississippi and began a teaching career. She was in the

Lincoln County School District for 30 plus years until retirement. Mrs. Laverne enjoyed

flower gardening as well as sewing and quilting. She wasn’t afraid to try new things,

she also worked with ceramics and was well acquainted with the art of cooking. She

was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven and was a faithful loving servant

of the Lord Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Lea; parents; and one brother, five sisters;

and son-in-law, Guy Hitt.

Those who are left behind to cherish her memory are, her children, Pam Hitt, Terry Lea and wife,

Amy and Tim Lea; and sisters, Evelyn Smith and Johnnie Jackson; six grandchildren,

Jessica Bullock and husband Nathan, Tiffany Malpass, Katie Lea Adam Lea, Matthew Lea,

Wade Lea along with four great-grandchildren, Kaleb Bullock, Noah Lea, Cole Bullock, and

Max Malpass. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Lea’s personal caregivers, Rita Wilson and Joyce Wright.
