Danny Victor Hammond

Danny Victor Hammond, 75, of Brookhaven passed away September 6, 2021, at Southwest MS Regional Medical Center

in McComb. He was born May 20, 1946, in Biloxi, Mississippi to Roland Cranford “RC” Hammond and Mary Lucille Hall Hammond.

They lived in Biloxi until Danny was in the sixth grade when they moved to Brookhaven to open the popular “Hammond's Drive-In.”

Danny graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1964 and went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Math

and Science from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Danny retired in 2008 after twenty-three years of teaching in the Mississippi public school system. His teaching career

began in Pascagoula, then Loyd Star, and finally with the Brookhaven Public Schools at Alexander Junior High. He truly

believed that “if he could reach one child, then it was worth it all.”

Danny also served his community as a former Alderman, former member of the Jaycees, and former member of

Noon Lion's Club. He was a member of New Sight Baptist Church and then Central Baptist Church where he loved singing in the choir.

Like their father, Danny's children both graduated from Brookhaven High School – he never missed either of

their many games and performances. In the last few years, he was able to relive some of those memories

watching his grandchildren on the ballfield. On Fridays you could find him listening to BHS football and on

Saturdays his USM Golden Eagles.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Hammond.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty years, Kaye Davis Hammond; son, John Andrew Hammond;

daughter, Holly Hammond Thompson (Jarrod Thompson); sister, Mary Kathryn Moran (F.D. “Billy” Moran, Rear Admiral (Ret.));

five grandchildren, Drew Grim, Davis Hammond, Walt Hammond, Paxton Grim, and Adilyn Thompson; Nephews,

Del Moran (Brooke Moran), Derek Hammond, Dr. David Hammond Jr., and one niece, Kelly Kalamas (Paul Kalamas),

as well as other loving family members and friends.

Memorial service for Danny Victor Hammond will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 11, at Central Baptist Church.

Any memorials should be made to the Central Baptist Church music program.
