George Dewey "Pete" Butler, Jr.

Graveside service for Mr. George Dewey “Pete” Butler, Jr., will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2019,

at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m., Tuesday, November 5, at Riverwood.

Mr. “Pete” Butler, Jr., 71, of Brookhaven, passed from this life November 3, 2019, at his residence.

He was born September 27, 1948, to his parents, the late George Dewey Butler, Sr., and

Mary Audelle Hampton Butler. He was retired from Delphi. He was a member of Union Baptist Church

and was also a lifetime farmer. Mr. “Pete” was a loving husband, father and grandfather and

will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lynn “Cowboy” Butler.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Jayedean Craig Butler; sons,

Josh Butler and wife, Lara, and Jayson Butler; one sister, Linda Butler West; and one granddaughter,

Millie Carson Butler.

Ann Nell Conrad

The funeral service for Ms. Ann Nell Conrad will be 11 a.m.,

Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Riverwood Family, with interment at Zion Hill Cemetery in Wesson.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday evening, November 6, at Riverwood and will resume Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

 

Ms. Conrad, 71, of Richland, MS, passed from this life on November 2, 2019, at her residence. She was born on October 15, 1948,

to her parents, James, and Lanell Howard. She was a cook by trade, but she enjoyed spending her free time reading and working in puzzle books.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and took great pleasure in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Bo Grice; granddaughter, Helen Grice; and brother, Preston “Buddy” Howard.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sherry Conrad Smith, and Kathy Ann Grice; brothers, Duke Howard, Wayne Howard,

Thomas Ray Howard, Jimmy Earl Howard, and Sammy Howard; sisters, Nita Faye Smith, and Marie Moore; four grandchildren, Nathaniel (Heather) Grice,

Helen Grice, Jamin Conrad, Raven Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Steven and Olivia Grice, as well as other loving family members and friends.

Myrtle Lee Lambert

The funeral service for Mrs. Myrtle Lee Lambert will be 2 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019,

at Riverwood, with interment at Beauregard Cemetery in Wesson. Visitation is from noon until the time of service at Riverwood.

Mrs. Lambert, 73, of Wesson, passed from this life on October 30, 2019, at her residence.

She was born on October 26, 1946, to her parents, Tom and Elma Hudson. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant

and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Wesson where she not only attended but participated in many things,

including singing in the choir. She loved her family, being a homemaker was a special calling to her and she did it with grace and beauty.

She enjoyed spending time shopping too. She will be missed by her family and friends who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and five sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are, her husband, Gerald Lambert; daughters, Donna Bowen (Amanda),

Van Annette Bowen; sisters, Van Fairchild, Lura Barlow, Susie Prine, and Charlie Hudson;

and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members and friends.

Joe Reece Brewer, Sr.

Obituary Document

The funeral service for Mr. Joe Reece Brewer, Sr., will be 1 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019, at First Baptist Church, Brookhaven, with interment at Riverwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.


Joe Reece Brewer, Sr., 86, of Brookhaven passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2019.  Joe, born to Hollis and Leona O'Quin Brewer, grew up in Pike County in the Friendship community.  Joe graduated from Summit High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served in the Korean conflict   Upon his discharge, Joe returned home to McComb where he met the love of his life, Sudie Ann Gardner, whom he affectionately referred to as "Toots".  They were married on May 30, 1954 and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.  


 Joe attended Southwest Community College and continued his education on a football scholarship to Northwestern State College.  After completing his education at Northwestern, Joe and Sudie returned to McComb where he began his career in the retail tire business.  In 1966 he was given the opportunity to move to Brookhaven to become partner and manager of Ole Brook Tire Service.  He later became sole owner and operated the business until his retirement in 1995.


 During the years Joe was in business, he gave back to his community by participating in numerous organizations.  But he said his first mission trip with his church to Breckinridge, Colorado changed his life.  He was asked to become chairman of the missions committee of First Baptist Church where he helped plan and lead many generous volunteers to go anywhere there was a need to minister about Jesus and help with church building.  In 1994, after much prayer and help from supporters and volunteers, Church Building Ministries, Inc. was founded.  Joe served through this ministry, Hospital Loma de Luz, Hope of Honduras, and many others until an accident left him unable.  One of his greatest testimonies to his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him was his continued, unwavering, love, faith and trust in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joe cherished the time spent with his family, friends, and all the many volunteers with whom he was so privileged to share his life.

 Joe was a lifetime deacon at First Baptist Church.  Joe Reece Brewer, Sr., born October 23, 1933, is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dub K. Brewer, Jerry Esco Brewer, and Hollis Lamar Brewer, and sister, Marjorie Brewer Lawrence.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sudie Gardner Brewer; sons, Joe Reece Brewer, Jr. and wife, Sandra; daughters, Susan Brewer Fitzsimmons and husband, Steve, Kathy Brewer Phillips and husband, Bill, Jennifer Brewer Yeager and husband, Rodney; brothers, Byron L. Brewer and wife Joan, Dan Brewer; sisters, Edna Brewer Haley, Peggy Brewer Rawson and husband, Wade, Wanda Brewer Satterwhite and husband, Jeff. He also leaves ten grandchildren, Joe R. Brewer, III, Courtney A. Brewer, Stephen J. Fitzsimmons (Michelle), Stacey F. Wesson (Barry), Matt S. Fitzsimmons, Leslie Phillips, Anna P. Peavey, Lindsey P. Robinson, Alex Smalley and Isabel Wilbanks; and 11 great grandchildren, Dylan and Luke Wesson, GiGi Fitzsimmons, William, Price, and Thomas King, Elliott Peavey, Marion and Lilliana Baker, and Reece and Emerson Robinson.

The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to his caregivers, Leonora Rials, Renee Dunaway, LeAnne Adibi, Shasta Harris, and to Virginia, Denise, and Carly from Hospice Ministries.

Betty Ruth Thetford Currie

Services for Mrs. Betty Ruth Thetford Currie of Brookhaven are 11:00 am Monday, October 28, 2019

at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with burial at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Copiah County.

Visitation Sunday, October 27, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Riverwood and also will resume Monday from 10:00 am until time of service.

 

Mrs. Betty Ruth Thetford Currie, 86, went to be with her Lord on October 24, 2019, at her residence.

She was born on March 6, 1933, to the late Walter Lee Thetford and Ruth Furr Thetford.

Mrs. Currie was a member of Easthaven Baptist Church and retired as a secretary for Bell South.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening, entertaining friends and family, cooking, reading, home computing

and attending church events.

She will be missed by all that loved and knew her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Don Currie; sisters, Christine Boren, Frances Del Rosso, and brother, Walter Ray Thetford.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Alan Currie, and wife, Angie; daughter, Donna Currie Becker

and her 5 grandchildren, David Wheeler, Kelly Wheeler, Madison Currie, Ellie Currie, and Lauren Currie.

Martin Lynn "Marty" Britt

The funeral service for Mr. Martin Lynn “Marty” Britt will be 2 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2019,

at Riverwood Family, with interment at Riverwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m.,

Saturday, October 26, at Riverwood.

Mr. Britt, 63, of Edwards, MS, passed from this life October 23, 2019 at his residence. He was born

May 3, 1956, in Brookhaven, MS, to his parents, Troy and Pauline Britt. Mr. Britt was retired from

working in the Oil Refinery Industry as a Supervisor. He enjoyed wood working and caring for

his lawn. His greatest enjoyment was loving his family. He was a wonderful husband, father,

grandfather and friend.

He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Clyde Allred and brother-in-law, David Allred.

Those he leaves to cherish his memory are, his wife, Shelley Britt; son, Daniel Britt and wife, Misty, that he considered a daughter;

daughter, Rachel Perry and husband, James, who he considered a son; mother-in-law, Frances Allred; brothers, Dennis Britt

and wife, Alice, Robert Britt and wife, Tracy; nine grandchildren, McKenzie White, Renee Perry,

Dylan Britt, Maddison Britt, Lorna Perry, Parker Britt, Payton Britt, Julia Perry, and James Perry, Jr.

He was also expecting to meet his first great grandchild in the near future.

Anita Faye Pugh

The funeral service for Mrs. Anita Faye Pugh will be 12 noon, Thursday, October 24, 2019,

at Monticello Baptist Church, with interment at the church cemetery. There will be a

time of visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Mrs. Pugh, 85, of Monticello, passed from this life October 22, 2019, at Lawrence County Hospital.

She was born March 10, 1934, to her parents, Marion Frank Trawick and Kathryn Ellen Sark Trawick.

Mrs. Pugh was employed at the Lawrence County Hospital as an Insurance Clerk before retiring.

She was a member of Monticello Baptist Church. A true woman of faith and values, she loved

her family and enjoyed cooking for them and spending time with each one. She also enjoyed

her faith family, going to her Sunday School class and worship at Monticello Baptist.

She will be missed by all who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Terry Trawick; and son-in-law, Randy Foster.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, Joseph Earl Pugh; daughters,

Debra Faye Foster, Suanne Foster, and Vicki Darlene Godwin; sister, Shirley Ann McCall;

five grandchildren, Stacey Foster, Joseph Foster, Skye Smith, Mandy Foster, and Douglas Godwin;

four great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Anna Louise Smith

Services for Mrs. Anna Louise Smith will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 11:00am,

at Riverwood Family with interment at Hillcrest Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, October 22, 2019, from 5:00-8:00pm also at Riverwood Family.

 

Anna Louise Smith, 80, of Brookhaven, passed from this life on October 20, 2019, at her residence.

She was born in Arkansas on December 15, 1938, to Roy Sexton and Bess Hefly Sexton.

Mrs. Smith worked for many years in sales at J.C. Penney’s along with being a homemaker for her family.

She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Bess Sexton; brothers, Benny Sexton and Chas Sexton and one sister-in-law, Gloria Sexton.

She was also preceded in death by an uncle and aunt, Loma and Clara Hefly whom were like parents

to her along with their daughter, Ella Van Gundy who became like a sister to her.

 

Those left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62+ years, John Douglas Smith; daughters, Tracy Catt and husband John W. and Terrie Hall and husband Bradley.

She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Katie Cole and husband Jason, Ashley Hall, Brooks Hall and wife Summer, Lindsey Hall,

John Douglas Barker, Anna Barker and Mary Hardin Barker; along with great-grandchildren, Axel and Gunner Cole, and Haylie and Grace Cole.

William Edward "Billy" Monk, Jr.

The funeral service for Mr. William “Billy” Edward Monk, Jr., will be 11 a.m., Thursday,

October 24, 2019, at Riverwood Family, with interment at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, at Riverwood and will resume at 10 a.m.,

Thursday before the service.

Mr. Monk, Jr., 62, of Monticello, MS, passed away October 18, 2019, at University Medical Center.

He was born January 5, 1957, to William Edward Monk, Sr. and Shirley Sunshine Young Monk.

He was a Biker and founder of Long Ride Bikers of Mississippi. He was also a member of Abate.

He enjoyed working on everything from his “mancave” to his tractors.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Shelly Greer Monk; daughters, Stephanie Monk and Kimberly Monk Anding

and husband, Dwayne; stepson, Matthew Corona and wife, Paige; sister, Melanie Monk Sanders and

husband, Darrell; five grandchildren, Tristan, Devan, and Kynlee Monk and Carter Anding and Zaxton Corona;

two nieces, Brittany Monk and Kelsey Case and one nephew, Daniel Pierce.

Luther "Dinky" Magee Gartman III

Services for Mr. Luther “Dinky” Magee Gartman III, of Brookhaven are 11:00 am

Monday, October 21, 2019 at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.

Visitation is from 9:00 am until time of service.

 

Mr. Luther “Dinky” Magee Gartman III, 61, went to be with his Lord on October 18, 2019 at St Dominics Hospital.

He was born on December 24, 1957 to the late Luther Magee Gartman, Jr. and Gretchen Oberschmidt Parson.

Mr. Gartman was a member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church and was Chief Engineer for Diamond Offshore.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and motorcyclist. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; and stepfather, C.K. “Pot” Burgess.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean L. Gartman; son, Brady M. Gartman and wife Shannon;

daughter, Janie G. Bass and husband, Chris and sister, Debra Spring. He is also survived by his grandchildren,

Ali Gartman, Landon Gartman, Lauren Gartman, Craig Bass, Lydia Bass and Sylvia Bass, and many special extended family members.
