Daniel Lee "Dan" Misch

The funeral service for Daniel Lee “Dan” Misch will be Noon, Tuesday, January 14th, at Johnson Grove Church of Christ with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m., Monday evening, January 13th, at Johnson Grove and will resume on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Mr. Misch, 66, of Smithdale, MS, died January 10, 2025, at his residence. He was born September 25, 1958, in Sumter, SC. He was a son to John Misch and Jean Misch Link. Daniel graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the West Virginia Institute of Technology. Dan was a Radar Engineer for the Department of Defense. He helped develop and test targeting radar for the Marine Corp and the Navy.

He had traveled around the United States and loved hiking with his wife and friends while visiting National Parks. Dan’s wry sense of humor was frustrating, but it brought smiles time and again.

He raised his family in King George, VA before retiring to Smithdale, MS in 2020.

He had a passion for woodworking and was a meticulous craftsman. Daniel was a member of Johnson Grove Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Terry Misch; his mother, Jean Link; children, Mark Misch (Alyssa), Audrey Aranda (Angel), and Ruth Huntsman; brother, John Misch; and one grandchild on the way.

The family would like to thank Arden Hospice and All At Home sitter services.

In lieu of flowers you may make donations to Johnson Grove Youth Fund or Smiling Acres Church Camp, 665 Auburn Drive, Bogue Chitto, MS 39629.

I started working with Dan when I was in high school as a student-aide. He and the whole TARTAR group kept the work place interesting. Dan was funny with a wicked sense of humor. At one point he had me convinced for months that his middle name was “Leroy”, even though I had his personal paperwork that stated otherwise. Whenever we ran into each other throughout our careers I would call him "Leroy". Dan was always available to listen to problems and give his unadulterated opinion when he thought it was needed. He was a good and kind person and will be missed. My sympathies and prayers go out to the entire Misch family. Wishing you peace and comfort.

I really enjoyed working with Dan. He was a smart radar guy but he also knew how to crack a smile, laugh a little, and have some fun along the way. Thoughts and Prayers to his family and close friends.

Very sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I shared an office with him for a few years and loved his "wry sense of humor." Watching he and Jim Mims ask questions at our first Prevention of Sexual Harassment training is a treasured memory that I will never forget--never ask an engineer to do something but trust someone they don't know--they *will* verify in detail. At all hands meetings, those two were like Waldorf and Statler on the Muppets, sitting next to each other and laughing at their quiet commentary.

Terry, Mark, Audrey, and Ruth, I am so sorry for the loss of Dan. I pray that you will feel the prayers of your friends and God’s peace and comfort as you grieve. Dan was a great friend and coworker. Although it’s been a while since we lived near each other and even longer since we worked together, Jim and I still laugh as we remember our “Dan stories.” Everyone else in the office used to laugh so much at the yelling that would go on between Dan, Jim, Mike, and Bill. (That’s what happens when you have four brilliant minds working on a solution together.) And Jim and I used to enjoy our Friday night dinners and Uno games with Dan and Terry at each other’s houses. Dan was the one who helped us teach Jimmy, our first-born son, not to have temper tantrums on a tile floor. Dan was one of those friends who was always there to help out when needed. He was a true Christian and servant. And there is no question that he is now enjoying heaven to the fullest! You and your extended family are in my prayers.

While Dan and I didn’t work together a lot he was a great radar engineer. I knew him and his family from a wide variety of King George youth activities as our kids were the same age. He was always involved and supportive of everything he touched. My sympathies go to Terry and all his family. My God hold you in this time of sorrow.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of a great guy. Dan was an extremely talented engineer. He was sort of a quiet fellow, but he had a significant impact on the Navy and Marine Corp radar systems. He touched many young lives both at work and home. My best wishes for Terry and family.

Dan was a good man. He and I were co-workers and friends. We worked closely together for about 20 years. People frequently got us mixed up. When we were office mates we fought. But we always had each others back. His sense of humor was something to behold. Back to the point. Dan was a good man. You could always count on Dan to do the right thing. I will always remember eating dinner and playing Uno with Dan and Terry. Terry I am so sorry.

Dan was a great mentor and friend to me for the past 35 years. He always kept a great attitude and sense of humor and was loved by his peers. I still tell "Dan stories" on a regular basis, even to those that never knew him. I know he will be forever loved and missed. Jesus, take into your arms your faithful servant and have mercy on his soul.
